bumping around in the 7-5-8 (motoyama)

i was in motoyama looking at king kong. and this couple came up to talk to me after they saw me take a picture of it using my polaroid camera. both had some nice cannons. i made a comment about their cameras. and they looked at me proudly and said, "no digital". we made some other small talk then i walked off.

good for them, the fact they dont use digital. maybe it wasnt their intention, but they came off like, indie music guy. i guess i dont take photography that seriously. i enjoy both film and digital. i like vinyl and i like to buy my music on itunes as well. you are kind of limiting yourself if you rely 100% on one or the other. variety is the spice channel of life.

and speaking of photography, later on i walked into a eyeglass shop. and some shop clerk was making comments on the olympus i was using (thanks john!) she was telling me that she was starting to get into photography, but she was really worried about how to use the correct lighting, and how to take a good picture. she then asked me what i do. i just said, well, i just take a picture, i guess i dont really even think about the lighting or any rules. she looked a little dissapointed and said, "oh". then i smiled awkwardly and i just made a comment about the old man japanese glasses by the window.

i have no idea about cameras. i like them, though. they are enjoy.

Stockholm's subway map in English

learning a language is always interesting. i am always trying to translate the names of people, places and things. but whenever i share the translation with a native speaker of japanese, they often give me a funny look, and say, "oh...yeah." i guess it's not as interesting to native speakers of any language. anyway, the nice people at The Local created the english translation of the stockholm city subway map. if you go to this page you can scroll the magnifying glass over the english name and find the swedish name of the station.

oh and by looking at this map, its not hard to see that stockholm has one of the most inconvenient subway networks ever. fortunately, they have a great bus, train, and tram network to help out. but, it would not hurt if they mixed in a circle line.

seki, gifu

i went to gifu with some friends of mine on saturday. it was my first real trip to gifu. we made a bbq japanese style. what's a japanese bbq? you would probably think that everything is done simply by robots while the rest of us enjoy a long speech from the senior member of our group. but this time we had to make the fire ourseleves. it was tough, but i did my best, and everyone had enjoy, i think.

bumping around the 7-5-8 (atsuta ward)

living where i do, i see some odd things or have odd conversations with people on friday and saturday night. one thing i can usually count on, is that someone will be laying down on the sidewalk surrounded by co-workers or friends after a night of heavy drinking. it usually ends up with them getting their drunk friend into a taxi. but sometimes it can be more serious and the meat wagon is called in.

the bar next to my place has been recently pushing a drink special, which will add to the vomit on my neighborhood sidewalks. the special is this, 1000 yen ($10), all you can drink for 2 hours. lucky for me, it's only a weekday special.

bumpin around in the 7-5-8 (poor parenting in higashi-ku)

higashi ku is home to nagoya dome. always a great place to hang and people watch even if you are not going to a game. there is a huge aeon shopping center across from the dome as well. every time i visit aeon shopping center on a sunday, i am immediately reminded why i never want children of my own.

special note: just for the fellas, if your woman is getting after you to eventually start a family. just take her out to aeon shopping center on a sunday. that will change her mind, for at least 6 months. then, the next time she brings family talk up again, just simply go back to the aeon the very next sunday.
